The beauty of the area is just as magical in both the summer and winter seasons. Balea Lake is declared a natural zone being one of the most beautiful and largest glacial lakes in Romania.

What to see and do around Balea Lake during the summer?

If you’re thinking about yourself as an enthusiast who rides through the mountain landscapes you’ll love the choice of routes that are a real challenge. Following the marked trails, you can reach the highest peak, Moldoveanu Peak at 2,544 meters in a nine-hour hike. If you’re looking for an easier route you can reach Negoiu Peak at 2,535 meters in a five-hour hike. Don’t miss the Balea Waterfall! No matter which route you choose, make sure that you have the proper equipment. So, among summer activities are enjoying the views from the lake, scenic driving, sightseeing, admiring the waterfall, hiking, having an outdoor picnic.

What to see and do around Balea Lake during winter?

As the greatest travel experience, we recommend you to go to Balea Lake in winter and get a room at the Hotel of Ice. Every year this Hotel of Ice features a new design. A night here can be a complete travel experience. This hotel has 12 rooms, an ice-lounge, a bar, and a restaurant. All rooms have ice beds with comfortable mattresses, covered with bed-sheets. Guests will be also be provided with a sleeping bag for the night. So, are you willing to try this experience? Besides this, you can experience a guided tour of ice-climbing or skiing.
